Today In Latin American History

Dilma Rousseff, the first woman to be elected president of Brazil, was born in the city of Belo Horizonte on December 14, 1947 to Pedro Rousseff, a Bulgarian immigrant and businessman, and Dilma Jane da Silva, a Brazilian schoolteacher. Rousseff is pictured above center along with her parents and siblings.
