December 28, 1932 marks the birthdate of Argentinian writer Manuel Puig, whose 1976 novel El beso de la mujer araña was turned into a cult film and an award-winning Broadway musical. The novel was initially banned in Argentina before being published there in 1983. Born in Buenos Aires, Puig spent the second half of his life in Mexico, where he died at age 58.
