Puerto Rican nationalist Pedro Albizu Campos enlisted in the US Army towards the end of the First World War but did not see any combat and was honorably discharged in 1919 with the rank of First Lieutenant. He was assigned to a segregated regiment headquartered in Puerto Rico.
